WELCOME FROM THE GRAND MASTER

Welcome to our website,

You have just landed—virtually—on the website of the Regular Grand Lodge of Belgium (RGLB). Is it out of curiosity? By chance? Out of genuine interest? In any case, you are most welcome to discover what traditional and universal Freemasonry is and, who knows, perhaps to go further toward submitting an application… but let us not rush things.

Today, internet users who search for the word ‘Freemasonry’ are flooded with numerous messages from various Masonic bodies, whether present in Belgium or not. The abundance of such messages can sometimes give an image quite far away from the reality of Freemasonry, at least as it is practiced within our Obedience.

Indeed, the Regular Grand Lodge of Belgium holds a unique position thanks to the broad international recognition it enjoys from more than 200 other Grand Lodges in the world. It is thus the only Grand Lodge in Belgium that belongs to universal and traditional Freemasonry worldwide.

Explaining Freemasonry as practiced by the RGLB can be summed up in one sentence: “Freemasonry is an initiatic association which, through its symbolic teaching, heightens men spiritually and morally and so contributes to improving humanity by practising the ideals of peace and brotherly love.”

Our traditional Masonry requires its members to affirm the existence of God, the Supreme Being whom we refer to as the Grand Architect of the Universe, and whom each Mason is free to conceive according to his own freedom of thought. It also requires its members to refrain from discussing religious or political matters in Lodge. Our Obedience does not engage in politics, either internally or externally in the world, but has as its sole purpose the self-improvement of each member, thereby contributing to the construction of the Temple of Humanity. Initiation, symbolism, spirituality, and love for one’s Brethren assist each Mason in his individual quest.

It only remains for me to wish you an enjoyable and instructive visit to our website. If you wish to explore further your curiosity or interest in Freemasonry and our Obedience, you simply need to express it on this site (section “How to Become a Freemason”). We will be pleased to provide any clarification you may desire.
